We are strengthening our position in the city and as an artistic university through a new shared building. The building will be located in the Näckrosen university area in a strategic location between Götaplatsen and Korsvägen, wall to wall with the University Library and Humanisten. Here, all our subjects come together under one roof in premises that will promote world-class education and research.
The house will support our vision of meetings and development within and across subject areas and disciplines. It will be a place in the middle of the city that attracts both students and employees from all over the world. A place where people inside and outside the academy can meet, experience art, exchange experiences and develop knowledge.
The boarded fence
Now, and while construction is underway, a boarded fence runs around the entire workplace. Here we see an opportunity to showcase our activity to passers-by and other interested parties in the city. Therefore, we are now looking for students who want to help us decorate the boarded fence that runs along Fågelsången with their art.

All students at the Artistic Faculty are welcome to submit a declaration of interest. Please read the guidelines below before contacting us.
Preliminarily, the plank is divided into sections of 5 meters. The surface to be painted is approximately 2 meters high. Please let us know if you are interested in one or more sections for your work.
Declaration of interest
Send an email where you describe what:
- You want to paint
- What materials you need
- Attach a sketch and any work samples
The email should be sent to plank@konst.gu.se no later than May 31, 2024.
The painting
The actual painting of the boarded fence is planned to take place during the latter half of June. Exact dates will be specified later.
While the work is in progress, areas will be demarcated so that it is possible to stand and paint in a traffic-safe manner.
Compensation
Compensation is paid to the students who are selected to participate in the painting of the plank of SEK 3,500 per 5 meters of fence.
Materials
Akademiska Hus will supply materials. A list of materials you need for your work is to be enclosed with your declaration of interest.
Guidelines
What is painted on the plank must follow these basic guidelines for content and expression. The content must also be suitable for showing to minors as it is a public outdoor place.
The content of the creative activities must not:
- Violate Swedish law (including copyright) or local ordinances.
- Be offensive, provocative or express violent elements.
- Advocate violence, vandalism or be offensive regarding gender, gender transgression identity or expression, ethnicity, religion or other belief, disability, sexual orientation or age.
- Simulate official information (traffic information, municipal information, etc.)
- Promote goods or services. Logos must not appear.
Ownership and responsibility
- Artwork or other decoration on the plank is owned by Akademiska Hus, which is also responsible for removal when the project ends.
- Akademiska Hus does not undertake compensation or maintenance responsibility for works of art and other decorations.
- By participating, consent is given that Akademiska Hus and the University of Gothenburg get the right to use images of the art and creative activities that are performed in print and digital channels without compensation.
- When marketing, the artist's name must be stated.
- The boarded fence may be painted over.
